Vintage Andy Potts at Oceanside 70.3 in 2011

The unofficial official start to the North American tri season kicked off this weekend with Ironman Oceanside 70.3. Heather Jackson (USA) just missed the podium and placed 4th, 30 seconds behind Heather Wurtele (CAN), followed closely by Jennifer Spieldenner (USA) and Jackie Hering (USA). Andy Potts (USA) and Joe Gambles (AUS) both had excellent showings with 5th and 8th respectively. You can see images of athletes on the bike here, where Dan Empfield of Slowtwitch cast an eye over their bike positions.

Other Rudy Project Racing Around the World:

Sarah Piampiano (USA) took 4th at Ironman 70.3 China in Liuzhou. Stephen Kilshaw (CAN) and Matt Russel (USA) took 4th and 5th respectively at Ironman 70.3 Galveston, with female athletes Kelly Williamson, Kelly Fillnow, and Heather Leiggi stacking up in 7th, 8th, and 9th at the same race.

#AlmostSummer

Megan Wallin-Brockway (@meganwallin13) is a professional beach volleyball player living in Sarasota, FL who competes around the globe. She is an incredible advocate for the sport, and routinely hosts youth beach volleyball camps to get young people involved in the sport. Her goal each year is to give away 10 camp scholarships to kids so they can attend a summer beach volleyball camp. This season she’s competing in her Tralyx SX:

I love the material the Tralyx  sunglasses are made out of. The flexibility and combined comfort in wearing the glasses helps me while playing. I am constantly jumping up and down and the glasses stay secure on my face. In wearing glasses all day combined with the hot sun I use to get headaches. I truly feel that the light weight frames and rubber like material prevent me from getting headaches. The Tralyx are my favorite glasses!”

THE ALASKA FILES: NORDIC SKIING

There’s still snow on the ground in Alaska, which is where USST athlete Jessie Diggins shines. She sprinted to a major win in the L.L. Bean US Cross Country Championships (her 7TH national title!). Fellow Rudy Project Athletes Kikkan Randall and Erika Flowers joined her on the podium. Sorry guys, you can’t get Diggins’ custom Genetyk sunglasses with American flag detailing, but you can get our pink Tralyx with ImpactX photochromic lenses.

SHRED YOUR HEART OUT

Jasmin Bambur took gold in the US Adaptive Championships in Mammoth, CA this season, taking 1st in the Grand Slalom and 2nd in the Slalom. A Paralympian and the first Serbian athlete to participate in the Paralympic Games in 2010, Jasmin shreds harder on his mono ski than most of us on a good day. Throughout his recovery from his spinal cord injury that left him a paraplegic, Jasmin was inspired by another Paralympic gold medalist to explore what was possible, and found skiing after a trip to Breckenridge, CO.

Jasmin Bambur - takes gold 2

“I immediately fell in love with skiing because there were no more wheelchairs, and I was completely free, and I was able to do everything I was doing before. You can jump; you can stop; you don’t need help from other people,” – Jasmin Bambur

At Coyote events, it's a tradition to wear the hat. First and last place male/female runners must don the sacred Coyote propeller hat and pass it off if you get passed (leaders) or pass it to last as you move up. The 68-mile Backbone Trail is so sweet snuggled amongst 13-million people. And, after the recent monsoons, really green and HOT! Shout out to Coyote Cohorts and the SoCal dirt bag runners. Giddyup, it was a joy to get a little too much sun, fun and run! Photo: @howiesternphoto

From a 400m sprinter to finishing my first #70point3 🙌 🏊‍♀️🚴🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️I'm so thankful for the OVERWHELMING support from my friends and family yesterday, I could NOT be more thankful for all of you being out on the course with me!!! #ironmanflorida703 was by far one of the most amazing and rewarding experiences of my life. I went into the race with VERY little training and not a lot of confidence but I knew it was just a pre-season training race so I did my best to enjoy the experience and try to feel strong the whole race. 70.3 miles at any pace is quite the mental battle, but aside from some gastrointestinal issues (I don't think I can EVER eat another gel again) and hip flexor/glutes cramping I felt great the whole race and I only lost one toenail!!! I held back a LOT because I didn't know how my body would react and I struggled a lot with nutrition but regardless I was very shocked by how good I felt. I might have to do one more half just to actually race it and see what my body is capable of now that I'm not so terrified of the distance, but I will say I'm VERY excited for my Olympic and sprints coming up because that distance will FINALLY feel short to me which was my ultimate goal! Thanks @owenshot for getting me strong enough to do this race in such a short time (but not injuring me) which I know is a tough balance! I'm ready for a strong year of racing 💪 #ironmanflorida703 #triathlete #ifinished #rudyprojectna #trigirl #coachowen #hainescity
