BOSIO
AND BERTOZZI WIN TWO PRESTIGIOUS EUROPEAN EJSBA 2003
TITLES
In
the fourth and last race of the European JetSki Corona
Tour 2003 championships, the two stars of the Pharmabag
Racing Team capped their season with a major win at
the continental level. After the three previous races
(Eurodisney in Paris, Mirandela in Portugal and Dinant
in Belgium) the JetSki caravan reached Imperia where
three days of difficult weather conditions (strong wind
and choppy seas) gave the 130 drivers from 18 countries
a run for their money. It was a great race, after Genoa
cancelled, organized in less than three weeks and already
reconfirmed for 2004.
In
the three final heats (every race consists of three
heats) Bosio and Bertozzi were simply wonderful. The
Piedmont resident, Gimmi Bosio, racing in the Runabout
1200 Superstock class "the top class" on an
official Sea Doo machine, dominated all three heats
winning in triumph before a large, enthusiastic public.
For Gimmi this was the eighth European title. The Massa
resident, Angelo Bertozzi, racing in the Runabout 1200
Stock class, came to Imperia with a consistent advantage
in the general classifications and, by winning the first
two heats, ended all discussion about the title. In
the third and last heat a slight collision during the
race damaged his SeaDoo Xp preventing him from closing
in triumph like Bosio. For Bertozzi it was the 2nd European
title after winning in 2002 in the Ski Superstock class.
For Italy, in the women`s Ski Division, Tatiana Mercuriali
lost the European title in a close final won by the
French racer Dujardin. Another racer from Piedmont,
Alessandro Beltramo, took second place in the Ski Division
Stock class behind Francese Botti. The Pharmabag Racing
team also took a third place with the Slovenian racer
Rok Florjancic in the Freestyle class after the new
continental champion Marc Sickerling and the Brazilian
Lenzi. During the European weekend, the 5th round of
the Italian Freestyle Championships was also held and
was won brilliantly by two members of the Pharmabag
Team: first Sergio Marcolini and second Armando Magagnino,
with Luigi Canavacciuolo in third place. Marcolini now
leads the general classification and in the sixth and
last round of the Italian championship, to be held in
Ostia on September 14, he should have no difficulty
in capping the season.
The
European Jet Ski season ended with the weekend in Imperia,
certainly positively for the Italians with two European
titles and two second places. Now the Jet Ski world
is preparing for the World Finals that will be held
at Lake Havasu in Arizona (U.S.A.) from October 5 to
12.
